The Mets went the trade route Tuesday to address their desperate need for healthy bodies, acquiring outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Cubs in exchange for cash considerations, the team said.
Maybin, 34, had been playing with the Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate in Iowa and will begin his Mets career with Triple-A Syracuse.
Outfielder Kevin Pillar was placed on the injured list Tuesday with nasal fractures after he was hit in the face with a fastball on Monday.
Right fielder Michael Conforto was placed on the IL on Monday with a hamstring strain, as was infielder Jeff McNeil.
Brandon Nimmo has been on the IL since May 3 with a finger injury, and Albert Almora Jr. is on the IL with a shoulder contusion.
Maybin split the 2020 season with the Cubs and Tigers. He played 82 games for the Yankees in 2019.
