Meghan Markle announced her new initiative to mobilise women back into work who had lost their jobs due to the pandemic. She said: “Because I’m turning 40, I am asking 40 friends to donate 40 minutes of their time to help mentor a woman who’s mobilising back into the workforce.

“Over 2,000,000 women in the US alone and tens of millions around the world have lost their jobs due to Covid.

“I think if we all do it and all commit 40 minutes to some sort of active service we can create a ripple effect.”

The Duchess appeared with Melissa McCarthy to announce the details of her initiative in a fun, light-hearted video.

Royal fans were quick, however, to notice something unique about Meghan’s beautiful tea-set.

The teacup is from Harrods, the very famous department store in London which even has a link to Meghan’s mother-in-law Princess Diana.

Harrods was formerly owned by Mohamed Al-Fayed, the father of Dodi Fayad who was Princess Diana’s boyfriend towards the end of her life.

Making a subtle nod to the UK, the Duchess of Sussex indulged in a delicious cup of tea from Harrods to celebrate her birthday.

In what was seen as an homage to the Queen and the Royal Family, Meghan’s royal touch to her video of having afternoon tea did not go unnoticed.

She also enjoyed a buttery shortbread biscuit to go with her tea whilst on the call.

Meghan’s exact teacup is described by Harrods as: “A breakfast cup crafted from the finest English earthenware, achieving the distinct decoration through a centuries-old technique of transferring from intricately hand-engraved rollers.”

Unsurprisingly, the teacup immediately sold out as soon as royal fans discovered where Meghan’s tea-set was from.

However, there is an exact dupe for those wishing to indulge in a royal-approved afternoon tea at home.

The Spode 1770 Italian Teacup Set, can be bought from Fortnum & Mason for just £75 – shop here.

It is a cup and saucer set, the saucer being white in the centre, and navy floral designs around the rim.

It is also gold-plated around the sides of the saucer, just to add another regal touch to the set.

The cup’s handle is white, and the cup is white with navy floral designs and other types of imagery.

The rim of the cup is also gold-plated to match the style of the saucer.

In a personal post on Archewell’s website, Meghan wrote: “In reflecting on my 40th birthday and the many things I am grateful for, I’m struck that TIME IS AMONG OUR GREATEST AND MOST ESSENTIAL GIFTS: Time with our loved ones, time doing the things we love, time spent learning, laughing, growing, and the sacred time we have on this earth.”

Meghan has not returned to the UK since March 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic and her pregnancy with Lilibet put limitations on her ability to travel overseas.
