In all of the Love Island series so far, fans of the show have been captivated by the female stars who seem to always look perfect, with flawless make-up and gorgeous lengthy hair.

But apparently that’s far from the truth for 2019 star Belle Hassan, who has revealed she got her hair into a bit of a state before the filming of the show.

In a tell-all video posted to her Instagram Story, the Islander, 26, claims that she had extremely damaged hair due to previous over-bleaching – which her hairdresser managed to hide very well under a full head of hair extensions, just in time for her TV debut.

“My hair literally snapped off to nothing,” Belle says in the short video. “I’d touch it and I’d be covered in blonde bits that had just broken off.”

“It felt like chewing gum,” she adds.

The star claims that her hairdresser did an incredible job at hiding her short, bleach-damaged hair before the show, giving the illusion of naturally long locks.

Belle also shared some shocking before photos with her 1 million Instagram followers, claiming that the bleach “savagely ruined” her hair.

The jaw-dropping pictures reveal how short her natural hair was against her extensions – no longer than a few inches.

But it’s not just Belle who suffers from this issue, as most blondes can probably relate to the star. If hair is bleached too often it can result in dry, dull hair that splits or snaps off.

As well as over bleaching, if the correct after-care products aren’t used – such as strengthening shampoos, hair oils and masks – the hair will just get worse as time goes on.

  • Six best shampoos for every hair concern

Luckily, since Belle’s bleaching disaster, the star has managed to restore her hair health and grow her lengths (as she shows in the above Instagram snap) by investing in some must-have products.

Speaking of her hair transformation journey, the Islander says excitedly, “Look at the hair growth, I can’t believe how much hair I’ve got back.”
