Kate Garraway is "keeping going for her kids", according to her friend Lorraine Kelly.
Kate's husband Derek Draper was rushed to hospital in March after testing positive for coronavirus, and in early April was admitted into intensive care.
Doctors placed him into a coma, and he's currently in a Prolonged Disorder of Consciousness, meaning he's generally unresponsive.
And as the ITV morning team rally around GMB's Kate, Lorraine has shared that she's staying strong for the sake of her and Derek's kids, Darcey and Billy.
Lorraine told OK! magazine: "Honestly, she is the bravest girl.
"I don't know how she does it. We've known each other for years and I've always really liked her because obviously she's really lovely but also she's a steel magnolia.
"She's been incredible. She says she's not doing anything anyone else wouldn't do but I'm not so sure about that. And of course, she says she's going to keep going for the kids."
And Lorraine says that Derek's experience has thrown into sharp relief just how dangerous the virus can be.
"We were talking about Derek and I just wanted to give her the biggest cuddle," she recalled, "Because of what happened to her, it brought it home to all of us at work just how serious this is."
In July, Kate returned to her hosting slot on GMB, bringing with her her customary dignity and charm.
And with humility, she told Good Housekeeping: "I'm not sure I am coping! I don't know how single mums do it; it's just so hard.
"A lot of the time I find myself thinking, 'What would Derek say?' and 'What would Derek do?'"
Meanwhile, she's been supported throughout by Lorraine and her ITV colleagues, including Adil Ray who's told that Kate's become a role model on the set of GMB.
Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid recently updated viewers, telling last month that Derek "may never come out of his coma."
And Kate herself has said that she doesn't know if Derek can make a recovery.
