If anyone has a good hair hack or two up their sleeve, it’s Jen Atkin. She styles the likes of Kendall Jenner, Khloe Kardashian and Hailey Bieber, and has amassed millions of fans on social media thanks to her celeb hair styling secrets.
Her latest hair hack, which she just shared with her 3.7 million Instagram followers, shows how you can create bouncy curls without using a hair tong or a wand, but instead with a pair of hair straighteners and flexi rods, £2.49 here on Shein.

This £16 hair accessory promises to keep your curls or blow-dry looking flawless on day two – but does it work?
Flexi rods have been used by women for decades as a heat-free way of getting spiral or twist curls, and are typically placed in the hair overnight. But Jen’s hack speeds up the setting process as she adds heat from straighteners to get a curly look instantly.
Her method is also pretty simple. Jen starts at the top of the head and wraps a small-ish section of hair tightly around a rod. She then clamps her Dyson Corrale Straightener, £399.99 here, over the wrapped hair, moving from root to tip to ensure the full section is given a blast of heat.

Jen doesn’t keep the hair clamped for very long – just a few sections. We’d assume this is to ensure there’s minimal damage, or potential melting of the rods! Once she pulls out the rod from the first section, she moves on to another and repeats the same process.
She recommends brushing out the curls for a more voluminous effect. Though Jen doesn’t show the full-head results, this type of curl style gives off a very Khloe Kardashian vibe, who often wears a spiral curl in her glam social snaps.

The bulk of Jen’s Instagram followers seem impressed with the hack, with many commenting they can’t wait to give it a go for themselves.
“Loooovvveee flexi rods!!! They are great for natural hair! I use them all the time!” says one.
Another writes: “Love the tip and love your makeup here, so bronzed and glowy!”
But other Instagram followers aren’t convinced the hack is worth the effort, with one commenting: “I'm so lazy, that looks like a lot of work”.
“Seems like a lot of work to get a curl”, says another.
What do you think – would you give it a go at home?
