It’s the advert we wait for each festive season with such anticipation and it’s finally here… yes, the John Lewis Christmas advert has returned once more, and it’s quite simply amazing!

This year the iconic advert celebrates small and random acts of kindness, inspired by the goodwill shown by the British public during the pandemic, and it’s entitled ‘Give A Little Love.’

In true John Lewis fashion, the advert boasts a song which really touches the heart strings, this time it’s a new song performed by BRIT Award winner Celeste, a 26-year-old British-Jamaican singer with a hauntingly beautiful voice.

The advert begins as a young boy gets his football stuck in a tree, but luckily someone comes to help him get it out, using a large heart shaped umbrella.

This then sets the tone for the advert, with random acts of kindness happening throughout.

The amazing advert switches artfully between live action and animation and it ends with the simple yet effective message of ‘Give A Little Love’ written in the sky, which comes from a plane resembling a World War II spitfire, in a homage to Captain Tom Moore.

Of the campaign, John Lewis have said they hope it will encourage people to donate to causes.

John Lewis executive director Pippa Wicks said: "We recently set out our ambition for our business to be a force for good – so we decided that this year was the year to break the mould and do something different.

"We have a long tradition of helping support the communities which we serve, so, as we launch one of the best-loved assets, our Christmas ad, it's fitting to take this one step further by working hand in hand with two incredible charities supporting families in need."

The store considered scrapping their winter marketing campaign after a difficult year for many, which is costly to make for the company.

However, they decided to use their thoughtful advert in a bid to raise money for much needed causes.

The advert, from John Lewis and Waitrose, aims to raise £4 million for charities Home Start and Fare Share.
