A woman has taken to the internet to complain that she met a really attractive man, but had to reject him after finding out his children’s “embarrassing” modern names.
The anonymous woman told her story on Reddit’s ‘Names Nerds Circlejerk’ forum, which is dedicated to poking fun at “awful” names, and warns that “no name is safe.”
The user wrote on her post that she had “met a cute single dad at a party” and the pair hit it off and began to tell each other stories about their personal lives.
However, the woman was shocked to learn what his children’s names were and said they were an immediate red flag.
She wrote: “…And of course [I] asked what his kids’ names were. They are Brecken and Braxton.”
She added the discovery was an “instant turn off” and she ended up not asking the man on a date.
Many people in the comment section found her reasoning for the rejection funny, and shared their thoughts on the names ‘Brecken’ and ‘Braxton’.
The most popular comment said they believed the name ‘Brecken’ is “[like] the sounds a cat makes when throwing up.”
Another person said: “Now you know why his wife left him.”
Somebody else wrote: “Parents be giving their kids the weirdest sounding names and it’s like do you want your kid to be bullied or were you just trying to be unique .”
Other women in the comment section revealed that they have also rejected single dads based on disliking their name choice for their children.
One user said “Hahaha! I was once talking to a guy and found out his daughter is named Nevaeh and that was hard for me to accept.”
Another woman revealed that she was afraid to ask her boyfriend his daughter’s name, but was pleased to discover she had a “classic timeless name.”
She added: “It’s such a weird thing to be judgy about, but I am.”
However, one popular comment defended the rejected single dad and argued that the name choice may have been his ex-wife’s idea.
They said: “I have met way too many [wives] whose husbands didn’t care about the first name, just the middle name.”
