How to clean greasy oven trays in just 20 minutes without scrubbing or using harsh chemicals
- Mum used two dishwasher tablets to clean oven trays
- She used boiling water and left them to soak
- After 20 minutes she wipes away the built-up grime
A clever mum has come up with a genius method for making greasy and grimy oven trays look like new again.
The woman from Sydney soaked her dirty oven trays in boiling water and two ‘cheap’ dishwasher tablets for 20 minutes.
After this, she poured the water out of the tray and ‘gently scrubbed’ the grime away – leaving them sparkling clean.
The mum said dishwasher tablets are a ‘less toxic’ solution for cleaning trays than harsh oven cleaners.
Many were wowed by the results and were keen to try the trick for themselves, while others offered their own easy oven tray cleaning hacks.
Before and after: Mum reveals how she made her oven trays caked with stubborn grease and grime look like new again using two ‘cheap’ dishwasher tablets
‘Just a tip. Soak your oven trays with a couple of cheap dishwasher tablets. For around 20 minutes,’ the mum said in a post to the Mums Who Clean Facebook page.
‘I get mine from Aldi. Pour kettle boiling water until the tray is full and scrub gently.’
In the comments she added she had broken the tablets up into pieces and spread them out so they could clean the whole tray and placed one under and one on top of the rack.
The mum said she also uses the hack to clean her oil fryers and on stubborn stains on the bottom of her frying pans.
‘What a great idea, Thanks,’ one group member replied and another said: ‘I do this too and it works a treat.’

Many shared their own hacks for cleaning grimy over trays including using Tricleanium concentrated cleaner or washing powder in hot water for those who don’t have a dishwasher.
‘Wrap them in al-foil with tablet inside and put in the bathtub and cover with hot water. Soak overnight and the gunk will just wipe off,’ one mum said.
‘I did it with my son’s racks that were almost completely black. It worked a treat!’
‘When I finish using the oven, I turn it off and put the trays with water and a dishwashing tablet in the oven while it cools down. Remove and rinse in the morning,’ a second explained.
‘I put mine in the dishwasher on a hot cycle and most comes off. Just little bit left sometimes that wipes off easily,’ another added.
