It is no secret that Prince Harry has had a pretty extraordinary life. Being born into royalty isn’t something that the majority of people get to experience, yet Prince Harry has never really known anything other than life in the public eye.
Since the day that he was born, Prince Harry has had a huge fan base, and he began being watched more closely when he and former American actress Meghan, Duchess of Sussex announced that they were in a serious relationship.
Everyone knows that things haven’t exactly been easy for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Even before they were married, the couple took significant criticism in the British tabloids, and after the royal wedding, things got so bad that they announced they were leaving London to try to escape the spotlight.
Meghan and Prince Harry were still being harassed relentlessly, and in a move that no one could have ever predicted, they decided to officially step down from royal duties. The move that was quickly dubbed “Megxit” caused some tension behind palace doors, so let’s discuss how Prince Harry reportedly burnt bridges “beyond repair” with the royal family.
Prince Harry has always been in the royal spotlight
As the son of England’s future king, Prince Harry is well-known by people around the world. He can’t go anywhere without being recognized, and he pretty much grew up in front of the cameras.
As a member of one of the most famous families in the world, privacy is hard to come by — after all, the prince had to endure with swarms of photographers as he attended his beloved mother’s funeral when he was only 12 years old. The truth is, however, that Prince Harry has always had a hard time with the massive amounts of attention he received.
According to Express, the sixth in line to the British throne hasn’t had it easy. He struggled with mental health issues, and at one time, was even known as the “rebel” of the royal family.
Now that he and Meghan are parents to one-year-old Archie Harrison, Prince Harry has been adamant about wanting privacy and protection from the media scrutiny.
Other royals were disappointed by the Duke of Sussex’s royal exit
Leaving the royal family is a pretty unusual move, but it is what Prince Harry and Meghan felt was best for them. Even so, Fox News reports that other senior royals — in particular Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and Prince William — were left disappointed by their royal exit and how suddenly it came on.
Although most people knew that the Sussexes were having a hard time with the media, no one predicted that they would step down from their duties, and the announcement left everyone “blindsided.” In a short time span, the royals and their staff found themselves working tirelessly to come up with a solution that would work for everyone, and other family members such as Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, had to take on extra duties after Meghan and Prince Harry resigned.
Is Prince Harry’s family relationship beyond repair?
The duke and duchess’s royal exit has been a done deal for months, so isn’t everyone over their shock and hurt feelings? Not so much. The tension is still present, and as we know, Meghan and Prince Harry have been talking a great deal about their political views.
According to a royal source: “Harry and Meghan have burnt some significant bridges that may be beyond repair.” Why is this? Well, the fact that they have been making videos and speaking about the importance of voting has not gone unnoticed.
A royal expert even says that “the royal family is no place for someone with political ambition” and Meghan is notorious for making her voice heard. Although he is not as vocal, Prince Harry has been standing by his wife, and by doing so, he may have caused irreparable damage in his family relationships.
That said, from a societal standpoint, their contribution is immeasurable. By using their voice for important issues like the Black Lives Matter movement and voter turnout, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are improving the world we live in.
