Kate Middleton – the Duchess of Cambridge – became a vital part of the royal family in 2011 when she married Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge.

Meghan Markle's sister-in-law is one of the most loved members of the monarchy, along with her three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

And while Prince Harry's sister-in-law does a wonderful job of being royal, there are certain elements of the royal family the 38-year-old hasn't been afraid to shake-up.

From fashion rules to taking on the position of photographer, here's the four ways Kate Middleton has changed the royal family.

Shaking up the fashion guidelines

Since Kate Middleton became royal, she has become arguably one of the most fashionable ladies in the United Kingdom.

And while Prince William’s wife does well to stick to the main rules of royal attire, she has rebelled once or twice, proving she’s keen to let her character shine through.

Whether it’s deciding to ditch tights, or wearing a dress sightly above the knee, Kate is fine with breaking the rules.

Raising the royal children her own way

Something very important to Kate is being involved with her children as they grow up, having only one nanny for the children instead of a team which normally cares for the tots.

As well as this, herself and Wills are eager to make sure Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have a normal upbringing, keeping in mind they are royalty.

William told BBC News in 2016: “As far as we're concerned, within our family unit we are a normal family."

He added: "I love my children the same way any father does and I hope George loves me the same way any son does to his father, so we are very normal in that sense."

Taking on the role of family photographer

Feeling confident to mix things up, Kate has recently become an official photographer for her royal family.

Since welcoming her first son, Prince George, Kate has been keen to show off her secret talent, and has since taken all the pictures for the royal children which are regularly released on their birthdays.

Another ‘rule’ surrounding the royal couples is that they avoid public displays of affection when on official engagements.

And while Kate and Wills do keep things PG while out and about, there’s been a few times the couple have held hands during outings, which most fans love to see.
