Goldbergs actor George Segal has passed away at the age of 87

Goldbergs actor and Oscar nominee George Segal has passed away this morning at the age of 87 due to "complications from bypass surgery".

George's wife Sonia broke the news today in as statement, stating: “The family is devastated to announce that this morning George Segal passed away due to complications from bypass surgery."

Fans will recognise him as Albert “Pops” Solomon on all eight seasons of ABC sitcom The Goldbergs.

He also famously starred opposite Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor in 1967's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

His longterm manager Abe Hoch said: “I am saddened by the fact that my close friend and client of many years has passed away. I will miss his warmth, humor, camaraderie and friendship. He was a wonderful human.”
