Dad refuses to sign son’s birth certificate after girlfriend gives him ex’s name

A bloke has reportedly refused to sign the birth certificate of his newborn son after his girlfriend named the baby after her ex.

The anonymous father wrote about his issue on Reddit in the sub forum r/ Relationship_Advice.

And, honestly, it’s blowing our minds…

The man had been dating his girlfriend for four years before they surprisingly fell pregnant while she was taking the pill.

Discussing the backstory, he said: “[My girlfriend] dated a guy for about eight years and he was her first BF, the story is that they drifted apart and he ended it but she was still in love with him."

What would you do in this situation? Let us know in the comments…

He continued: "We met a few months later and were friends before we started dating.

“I got the impression that she was never really over him at the start of the relationship, but it seemed she moved on after the years and went he moved back to our city two years ago she didn't seem phased.

“We met him twice and there didn't seem to be anything weird going on so I assumed she was completely over him."

After his girlfriend fell pregnant they chose a name for the baby two months before she was due to give birth.

However, a spanner was thrown into the works after his son was born and he went to sign the birth certificate.

Where he found out a nasty surprise.

He explained: “The baby isn't called the name we agreed upon but the same name as her ex.

“Not just the same name, but the same middle name as well and then our surnames (after we agreed we'd use both our surnames and forgo the use of a middle name).

"I couldn't blow my top of course as she's still recuperating at home plus there's this whole worldwide mess going on so I should be happy all three of us are back home and safe.

“I did however ask her about it, she said that it was just a spur of a moment thing or she'll fob me off by saying she's too exhausted to talk about it."

After a few days, he told her that he wouldn’t sign the birth certificate until she agreed to change the name back to the one they agreed on.

The new dad said he was now “plagued with doubt” over whether he was the child’s father or if his girlfriend still loves her ex.

Many commenters told the man to seek confirmation that he is the child’s real dad.

One person said: "Wow, almost every comment here shouts 'paternity test', and frankly OP should do that.

“But, the bigger problem is that OP needs to know what to do if the child is his.

“He can't live in a relationship with someone who has so low respect for him.”

While another added: “Really if you're at the point where you're doubting the paternity of the child, the relationship is probably over.

“She clearly has zero respect for his opinions and feelings."

Yikes!
