Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli recently debuted his new “silver fox” grey hair.

The star appeared on Good Morning Britain for an interview with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, and admitted Phillip Schofield was one of the influences for his new look.

The 64 year old spoke to viewers via video link that from Los Angeles, where he has been spending the lockdown.

The star said: "I got here just before all of this madness happened, and I was thinking about for a long time, you basically need to shave your head and start again.

"And I said, 'This is the time'. It's kind of liberating, and I'm happy people like it. It's so much easier."

It does look fantastic, but how exactly does one embrace the transition to grey if they have been dying it without just shaving their head. After all, for most woman this is an implausible method.

Well, we spoke to celebrity hair stylist James Johnson, who has done everyone from Gemma Collins to Megan Barton Hanson’s billowy barnets.

He explained: “Going grey shouldn’t be feared. As much as a lot of us dread those bright unwanted tones growing through – it can be so flattering!

“Being ‘grey’ has been a real trend in the recent years, so if it happens naturally, embrace it as many will pay a lot to receive that in the salon!”

He then added: “The beautiful thing about grey too is there’s so many different tones of grey. Whether you’re slate or more of a white pure grey, it’s such a diverse colour everyone has the potential to be unique with their looks!

“Going grey also doesn’t mean you’re old. I have friends who have grey tones reflecting in their 20’s and I have older clients in their 60’s who are still going strong with their original colours. Let’s embrace and own our greys ladies!”

However, if you don’t want to just let nature take its course and the grey to grow through you can start the transition by blending it in with your dyed colour.

He explained: “For the ladies who want to blend in the greys, opt for highlights. Adding pieces to the hair to break up the solid regrowth will help blend in the new colour into the old.

"The highlights will use bleach to lift the pigment out the hair to match it to the new grey coming through. Don’t be scared about the bleach, this is a natural process and if done right in the salon, won’t damage your hair! Leave it to the professionals!

“For the greys that need toning opt for a purple shampoo. This will help neutralise any yellow tones in the grey hair, keeping the grey strands pure and bright!

“Overall you’d thank me for advising to stay away from colouring the greys! In the long run, the less maintenance the better… embrace the greys!”

There we have it… perhaps grey is the new black!
