Zoe Ball inundated with support amid ‘heartbreak’ after loss of BBC Radio 1 colleague

BBC Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball, 50, shared the heartbreaking news in a candid Instagram post. The Strictly: It Takes Two presenter shared a picture alongside her late friend who she explained had been “quite poorly for some time”.

The mother-of-two was swiftly inundated with support on social media as she shared the sad news.

Zoe explained that she and Simon had worked together when she was a host on BBC’s Radio 1.

Announcing her friend’s death on the picture-sharing site, Zoe penned: “Heartbroken to hear our dear friend Willy, Simon Willis from our Radio 1 Breakfast Show team, passed away last night.

“He’d been poorly for some time. He was the naughtiest, daftest dear chap, deliciously hilarious, the best raconteur and a total joy to work with and indeed play with.”

She continued: “He took us on some wild wonderful adventures with the show, oh the tales.

“The Oscars, ski trips, the Euros, The Brits. Forever in our hearts Showbiz Willis. The best of the best Baby.”

Alongside the moving tribute post, the Strictly presenter shared a series of photos alongside Simon.

Fans rushed to offer their condolences, as they offered their support to Zoe.

One wrote: “So sorry for the loss of your good friend.”

Another added: “God Zoe I’m so sorry for you and your team’s loss.

“Clearly some very lasting memories and adventures for you to remember his by. I’m sure he knew he was very well loved.”

“So very sorry. Sending love,” a third wrote, while another added: “So sad. Rest in Peace.”

According to Simon’s Linkedin account, he worked alongside her for four years from 1998.

He also assisted in the launch of the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show which she currently presents on Radio 2.

Simon’s profile read: “I had editorial and development responsibility for Radio 1’s daytime output, this included launching the award-winning Zoe Ball Breakfast Show.”

The Strictly star often shares insights into her personal life on the social media platform with her friends and family.

The TV star recently uploaded a rare photo of her brother Jamie on the picture-sharing site in honour of his birthday.

Zoe is a popular radio and TV personality and was the first female host on both Radio 1 and Radio 2 breakfast shows.

She also presented the 1990s children’s show Live & Kicking, alongside Jamie Theakston.

The radio host currently fronts her self-titled breakfast show on Radio 2.
