Here’s the answer…

Will Prince Philip get a letter from the Queen on his 100th birthday?

So, unfortunately for those looking for a straightforward yes or no, unfortunately it’s a little more complicated than that.

In order to receive a letter from the Queen when you turn 100 you, or someone on your behalf, have to apply to receive a message and this should be done at least five weeks before the big birthday.

  • Princess Eugenie’s baby name meaning revealed including touching tribute to grandfather Prince Philip

You don’t need to apply if you receive a state pension as your name and address will be taken from records.

So Prince Philip will receive a special 100th birthday letter from his wife the Queen if he, or someone close to him, applies on his behalf.

That said, let’s not forget Prince Philip is married to the Queen and so it’s highly likely he’ll receive a birthday card from her anyway.

Prince Philip is also known to be somewhat of a prankster, famed for witty remarks, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he himself applied for a special birthday message from the Queen.

As well as getting a message from the Queen when you turn 100, British nationals will also receive a message when turning 105, and every birthday after that if they so wish.

Prince Philip remains in hospital after feeling unwell and, according to The Sun Online, the 99 year old will continue to be under observation as he rests up over the weekend after feeling unwell.

A royal source told the publication: "Following consultation with his doctor The Duke of Edinburgh is likely to remain in hospital for observation and rest over the weekend and into next week.

"As we have said previously the doctor is acting with an abundance of caution. The Duke remains in good spirits."

A second source added: “Everyone loves a visitor when they are feeling low in hospital but the Duke will be extremely stoic about it.

“He knows the nation is sending their thoughts and prayers. The Duke has been in HMS Bubble for almost a year so he is used to all kinds of restrictions.

“He has barely been able to see his family for the past year. He knows only too well people have been going through worse than him.”
