Marvel’s Tom Hiddleston is “really pleased” that Loki is officially gender fluid in the new Disney+ series – much like the rest of us.
The God of Mischief was confirmed as gender fluid in the new spin-off show, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe making reference to what’s long been canon in the comics.
Fans will have to wait and see how far the MCU takes Loki’s gender fluidity, but no matter how fleeting the on-screen reveal was, it still symbolises a big step for the Disney-owned studio.

And that fact’s not lost on Tom Hiddleston, who plays the titular shapeshifter, as he told Reuters that Loki’s gender has “always been there in the mythology, [and] it’s been there in the comics.”
“Loki, as a character, has had such a broad and wide-ranging identity. He’s always been a character you could never put in a box, you could never pin down,” he continued.
Referring to the moment we learn that the Time Variance Authority’s files list Loki’s ‘sex’ as “FLUID”, Tom added: “I was really pleased with the touch on that in the series.”

Meanwhile, in other Loki developments, Hiddleston recently teased a raft of cast members yet to make an appearance.
When asked which episode of the Disney+ show he was most excited about, he replied: “It’s a tough one. They’re all so different, which I love about it.
“And every episode is almost a self-contained story, partly to do with the brilliance of everybody involved – not me, but Owen Wilson, [writer] Kate Herron and cast members I’m afraid I cannot yet name for you, but wait and see.”
Loki is streaming exclusively on Disney+, with new episodes every Wednesday.
