Shaun Ryder, 59, has struggled with learning difficulties throughout his life. The Gogglebox star expressed how his ADHD was probably the reason why he was so heavily involved in drugs.

I find reading stuff really difficult.

The Happy Mondays star previously blamed his short attention span on his years of drinking and partying.

However, earlier this year he was diagnosed with ADHD, explaining everything to him.

Due to his diagnosis, he found it especially hard to write his new book.

He said: “I find reading stuff really difficult because of my condition and concentrating.

“I find it really hard to concentrate on reading books so this is the first time I have ever read one properly, including my own autobiography.”

Shaun added: “I had to read it out loud for the audio book.”

Speaking previously to NorthernLife, Shaun recalled leaving school without knowing the alphabet.

He said: “I was 26 years old when I learnt the alphabet.

“My girlfriend at the time taught it to me through singing, and I learnt it in five minutes.”

He explained that while he was at school there was no such thing as learning difficulties.

Shaun said: “Going to school in the 60s and 70s there was no such thing as learning difficulties, you were seen as naughty and sent outside to pick crisp packets up all day.

“If you did go to a special education unit then you’d be labelled for life as a retard.”

Shaun recently hit the headlines when he expressed his opinion to on Paige Deville’s Gogglebox exit.

It came after Paige tweeted on September 17: “I have made the decision to walk away from Gogglebox.

“It’s been an experience but one I cannot continue with due to long hours of filming, restrictiveness, control of our actions and opinions & zero aftercare support but hey who cares about ex cast, their NTA winners.”

Shaun did not understand her reasoning for leaving, saying: “No support about what? What do you need support for?

“Is she a bit of a snowflake or whatever they are called or woke?

“What the f**k do you need support for on f****g Gogglebox for f**ks sake.”

Shaun said how easy the show is to film, leaving him unable to understand Paige’s reasoning for leaving the show.

Paige responded to Shaun’s comments to the BirminghamMail, calling Shaun a “troll” as she had no experience with fame before Gogglebox.
