Prince Harry and Prince William’s reunion as they joined forces to unveil the statue of their late mother Princess Diana on Thursday appeared light-hearted – but a body language expert believes otherwise.
The Duke of Sussex did his best to laugh and joke with his elder brother in Kensington Palace gardens this week, having not come face to face with his sibling since their grandfather Prince Philip’s funeral in April.
But Judi James claims the small detail of Harry fiddling with his wedding ring was actually a sign of hidden anxiety.
The behavioural expert suggested Harry was drawing on his main source of comfort to help him get through the highly-charged reunion – his wife and partner Meghan Markle.
The ceremony marked what would have been the “people’s princess’” 60th birthday, and the Sunken Garden – one of her favourite areas of Kensington Palace – was redesigned to feature her favourite flowers for the unveiling of a statue commissioned by the brothers back in 2017.
A huge chasm is believed to have opened up between the siblings over the last couple of years, following Harry and Meghan’s departure from Britain, their decision to step back from the royal family and explosive TV interviews.
While Judi said she couldn’t see any “real tension in their posture”, she explained: “Harry fiddled with his wedding ring which is clearly a reference to seeing his family as a source of comfort under pressure."
As the Duke has been seen touching his wedding ring at other royal events in the past, Judi is convinced he only does it when he feels “under pressure or lonely”.

The social skills expert and writer went on to say that while the brothers’ smiles did seem rigid, there was a show of unity between the pair as they came into the garden side by side.
What’s more, Judi suggested there had been “subliminal bonding” between the pair because they unconsciously mirrored each other’s body language.
Despite their issues, Harry told US chat show host Oprah Winfrey that he would always love his brother during his interview in March.
He also hoped that despite being on different paths they would be able to come back together in time.
The body language expert also told the Mirror that the brothers shared a poignant moment during the initial unveiling of the statue, which depicts Diana stood with three children.
After pulling off the shroud covering the sculpture, two siblings stood apart and gazed at the figure for a moment.
Harry then glanced across at William, and Judi suggested this was the most revealing behaviour of all.
"In a way that was probably the most profound gesture. It was as though Harry did want to share that moment with his brother,” she added.
