Piers Morgan tears into Amanda Knox after election tweet: ‘Disgusting'

Piers Morgan did not hold back on telling Amanda Knox what he thought about her comparing the US election results to her jail time in Italy following the murder of Meredith Kercher.

Knox, 33, had been convicted of the murder of Meredith Kercher and spent almost four years in prison before she was exonerated.

While awaiting the results of the US general election, she tweeted: ‘Whatever happens, the next four years can’t be as bad as that four-year study abroad I did in Italy, right?’

Her tweet angered many for ‘making light’ of the horrific murder of her friend, including Morgan, who had worked with Kercher’s dad.

He tweeted: ‘I can think of a 21-year-old British girl named Meredith Kercher who had a far worse time than you in Italy.

‘Remember her? How dare you make a joke of it.. you disgusting piece of work.’

Knox responded: ‘Occasionally I joke about my wrongful conviction & imprisonment in Italy. I’m allowed to joke about my own trauma. I didn’t joke about the Kercher’s.

‘I didn’t kill Meredith. Rudy Guede did, & you know it. Stop exploiting Meredith’s name to victim blame me. You’re pathetic.’

Morgan then hit back: ‘Meredith’s father John worked for me at the Daily Mirror. He was a thoroughly decent man left broken by her murder.

‘Your lies about that night & cynical commercial exploitation of it ever since are both suspicious & repellent. You’re many things but ‘victim’ isn’t one of them.’

Her initial tweet had made reference to the US election, which sees Donald Trump and Joe Biden battling it out for the presidency, with the final result yet to be confirmed.

Knox had been accused of murdering Kercher, 21, who was her flatmate, along with her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito while studying abroad in Perguia, Italy, in 2007.

She and Sollecito were both found guilty in 2009, and Knox was jailed for 26 years, but their convictions were then overturned by an appeals court in 2011.
