Patrick Stewart throws his supports behind the OK! Closet Clear Out and auctions T-shirt for Refuge

Patrick Stewart needs little introduction, the acting legend has a body of work that spans six decades and encompasses TV, theatre and film. While he might be best known and cherished for his roles as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek and Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men, Patrick Stewart began his incredible career with a long run with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Beyond receiving his OBE for services to drama, Patrick has also received nominations for Olivier, Golden Globe, Emmy, Screen Actors Guild and the Saturn Awards.

  • Domestic abuse survivor Natasha Saunders was raped by ex-husband just hours after giving birth to second child

  • Melanie Clarke, 36: 'I was five months pregnant when my partner jumped on my back and choked me from behind'

It is fair to say that life for Patrick has turned out pretty well, as the talented actor has certainly earned his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But life was not always so starry eyed for Patrick.

Patrick grew up in West Riding of Yorkshire in a household where domestic violence was a feature. While all our stars are passionate about the cause, for Patrick Stewart, this campaign sadly hits closer to home for him than most. A keen supporter of Refuge and their amazing work, Patrick became a Patron for the charity in 2007.

"As a child I witnessed repeated violence against my mother – but there was nowhere to go for help. The truth is, domestic violence is protected by silence. More women and children, just like my mother and me, will continue to experience abuse unless we speak out against it, that is why I was happy to give my support to this campaign.

"Calls to Refuge's Domestic Abuse Helpline have increased by 50% during the lockdown, it's vital that the OK! Closet Clear Out raises as much money as possible; allowing Refuge to continue offering crucial support to those women and children who need it during this very unsettling time".

Patrick’s story really punctuates how important this campaign is and his auction item is a real collectible for Patrick Stewart fans.
