Martin Lewis made his Good Morning Britain debut alongside Susanna Reid on ITV today. It comes months after Piers Morgan quit his role on the morning programme after the journalist refused to apologise for comments he made about Meghan Markle.

Since Piers’ departure, GMB have featured a number of popular faces to front the programme including Richard Madeley, Alastair Campbell and most recently Martin.

The money-saving expert reacted to a viewer who queried the financial guru about his new presenting gig.

The 49-year-old explained he was “flattered” to be given an opportunity to host the ITV show, as he addressed claims of a permanent role.

It comes after a social media user quizzed him on his GMB debut.

Taking to Twitter, the person in question wrote: “Would you do the job full-time if asked?”

In view of his 1.1 million followers, Martin shut down their query as he admitted he had no plans to be a permanent presenter on GMB.

He wrote: “No. My role is saving people money.

“I’m very flattered to have been asked to guest present. I enjoyed it today. And if the week goes well I’d be happy to do holiday cover and pop back a few times a year, yet my normal mission takes priority, so wouldnt/can’t do it full time.”

Viewers flocked to comment on the post, as many praised his appearance on GMB.

One wrote: “You would make a great presenter but you are right your role is saving money/ fighting for the nation.”

Another penned: “I thought that you nailed it Martin! Well done.”

A third chanted: “We want Martin, we want Martin.”

While a fourth added: “A cracking job well done.”

Meanwhile, his co-star Susanna made a cheeky reference to Piers during GMB after Martin disappeared mid-way through the show.

Following an ad break, the cameras returned to the studio to show the 50-year-old sat at the GMB panel’s desk on her own.

She remained silent as she shuffled her papers as laughter rang out behind the camera.

“He’s gone already,” co-star Charlotte Hawkins said as Susanna threw her arms in the air.

“Was it something you said?” Charlotte asked before Susanna protested her innocence: “I don’t know what I said but it’s almost eight…”

She was cut off as Martin walked back through the studio doors.

“I was thinking I’d walk, I’d go,” he said. “But the truth is people, when you’re new to a job and you’ve been drinking tea since seven o’clock this morning and you can’t find the loo in the ad break, you might occasionally be late back to your desk.”

Susanna then joked: “Look, we’ve got an issue with people leaving the studio on this programme so I’m glad you’re back.”

It comes after Piers dramatically stormed off the GMB set after a row over Meghan Markle.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6.00am.
