Marti Pellow, 56, has had a long career in the spotlight as the singer of Wet Wet Wet as well as forging his own successful solo path. However, as he returns to screens in Saturday Kitchen, Marti recently opened up about how important his long-term partner Eileen Catterson was during his battle with addiction.

Marti has been in a long-term relationship with his partner Eileen for more than 20 years and the pair live together in Windsor.

They met in 1990 and began their whirlwind romance with a date at a Saturday afternoon Rangers match.

Eileen, 51, was formerly Miss Scotland and worked for many years as a successful model.

Marti recently opened up in an interview with the Guardian about how important Eileen was to his recovery from addiction.

The singer has opened up several times about his battle with drugs over his career.

He said: “She was a great support. Great support.

“There is no way I can articulate how important Eileen was.

“Whatever was said to get the man back that she fell in love with was paramount.

“It’s so important for any addict to have strong people who are not afraid to say: ‘I will walk away from this.

“‘But I know what’s in there and I will fight hammer and tongs to get that individual back.’”

This is a rare admission about their relationship as the couple have only mentioned it a few times in interviews.

Eileen opened up to the Daily Record in 1999 about how Marti had asked her on four separate occasions to marry her.

However, she turned him down each time, before revealing to the publication how they did plan to wed.

Eileen said: “We will get married, but we won’t be pressurised into it.

“We will have a future together and like any other couple we will consider having children.”

However, Eileen did also reveal they were a private couple, which fans will have been aware of over the years.

She told the publication: “We are very private people and when we read that our relationship is a sham, we just laugh about it.

“We know that it is a special relationship, that we love each other and are very secure about it.

“We talk to each other most days and see each other whenever we can.

“We grab weekends away when it is at all possible. We just do what other couples do.”
