Love Island’s Dr Alex George reveals he is leaving his job in A&E to train as a GP

Dr Alex George has announced that he embarking on a career change and is leaving A&E to train as a GP.

The former Love Island star revealed his exciting news on his Instagram page for his 1.5 million friends and followers.

The 30-year-old posted his announcement along with a picture of himself at work wearing blue scrubs and a facemask.

Dr Alex wrote: "CAREER UPDATE: I am leaving A&E! I have had the most incredible five years in the Emergency Department but it’s nearly time for me to move on.

"It won’t be easy but next summer I will be starting a fresh chapter. I am embarking on a new career within the medical field and am excited to have you all on this journey with me."

He also uploaded a new video to YouTube talking about his decision to "move on".

The celebrity doctor, who has had a difficult year, explained that one big factor in his decision to pick GP training over any other medical field was the "flexibility".

He graduated from his medical degree in 2015 and spent a year at King College Hospital before joining Lewisham Hospital, where he has remained ever since.

He told his fans that his new role will allow him to continue with his podcast The Waiting Room and his YouTube channel, among other projects that he's working on.

In the caption for the video, he admitted he had enjoyed working in Lewisham A&E and asked his fans for their opinions on his big decision.

He continued: "I have loved working in Lewisham A&E for the last 5 years and learnt so much.

"However at some point we all have to move on and I am excited to start a new chapter.

"I am keen to hear what you all think of my decision? Thank you for all of your support!"
