Kerry Washington, 44, is among the star-studded attendees at the 27th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, who have been getting ready to celebrate each other’s talent at their homes due to a switch-up virtual ceremony. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this years SAG Awards will be presented at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, with the winners accepting their awards without having to leave their houses.
The nominations were announced via an Instagram Live in February, with Kerry up for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series for her role in Little Fires Everywhere.
She is up against Kate Blanchett, Michaela Coel, Nicole Kidman and Anya Taylor-Joy in the category, with the winners already confirmed.
Ahead of the show, the actress debuted her stunning gown in a rather different way… by posing in her pool and then plunging feet first into the water, dress and all.
Filming her step-by-step process of getting ready on her Instagram stories, the Scandal actress looked stunning as she oozed 1920s elegance, donning a beaded custom navy blue Etro dress with matching headpiece and nails as she lay against the steps.
Taking to her social media, she shared three sultry photos of her anticipated get-up, captioning the post: “#SAGAwards is going swimmingly…#MermaidVibesAlways.”
Fans rushed to the comments section to share their amazement at the stunning photos, with one saying: “You look so beautiful and stunning Kerry! Good luck at #SAGAwards.”
Another added: “Excuse me who told you to slay like this.”
“You look beautiful in the outfit! I especially like the swim cap Man swimming,” a third agreed.
Someone else joked: “So this is the new Disney’s mermaid live action?”
While another appeared concerned for her gown: “It’s gorgeous but why sit in a pool with custom couture?”
She also penned on Instagram: “Grateful to the #SAGAwards for giving me a reason to get dressed up.
“You gotta ditch the sweats when you’re surrounded by all the BEAUTY & BRILLIANCE in this category. Sooooooooo honored to be nominated for #LittleFiresEverywhere among you ladies, #MichaelaCoel, @anyataylorjoy, @nicolekidman & #CateBlanchett.”

This year’s show has been pre-taped, with the winners having already been informed of their success.
Ahead of the ceremony, executive producer Todd Milliner revealed they had great faith in the nominees to keep it hush until the big night.
“The actors have a tremendous amount of respect for the other folks in their union,” he told the Hollywood Reporter.
“So we’re hoping that it’s a mix of honour and respect and then trying not to let a secret burn a hole in your pocket for a couple of days.”
He added: “We feel pretty confident that everybody’s going to play along.”
Kathy Connell also confirmed that the ceremony “is all about safety”, with the actor’s health at the forefront of their minds.
“We’re taping in safe locations. It can be the actor’s home, in a couple of cases it’s within the actors’ production bubble,” she explained.
“The whole thing is all about safety for us. Anybody who goes [to the taping], if it’s our crew, they have been tested within the couple of days before, and they’re wearing masks.”
