Kate Middleton has become the “glue” holding the royal family together by stepping into the late Prince Philip’s role, a royal expert has revealed.
Vanity Fair's royal editor Katie Nichol spoke to 60 Minutes Australia and explained why she sees Kate as the royal family’s “greatest asset”.
She said: “The royal family realise they have a really important key player here and they're bringing her centre stage.”
Referring to The Duke of Edinburgh, the royal expert continued: “He was the patriarch of the family. I see Kate stepping into that role. Trying to keep things together.”
The royal family have suffered a challenging year, following the death of Prince Philip and the controversy surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's numerous bombshell accusations and new life in California.
Meghan Markle accused the royal family of racism in the couple's shocking tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, broadcast on ITV in the UK.
Prince Andrew has also faced questioning over his friendship with billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Prince Andrew strenuously denies any wrongdoing or involvement with Epstein’s crimes.
The royal expert continued to speculate over whether Prince Charles and Camilla will take the crown after the Queen, or if the monarchy would skip them and go straight to William and Kate.
Katie said: “A lot of people think it would make more sense to skip a generation and let the crown move straight to William and Kate. Possibly they might prove a more popular King and Queen than Charles and Camilla.”
She continued: “But the idea of breaking constitution and that is essentially everything the Royal Family is built upon is really something that's not going to happen. William and Kate are perfect vehicle for good PR.”
She also claimed that we’ve “seen a different side to the royals” and that Kate and William have been “more real and relatable.”

The royal expert said of Kate: “For someone that wasn't born royal she does royal incredible well, she can't put a foot wrong.”
Also interviewed for the 60 Minutes Australia segment was Kate’s uncle, her mother Carole’s brother Gary Goldsmith, who said that she was “born ready” to be Queen, claiming that she’s “perfect” for the role.
This discussion around Kate and William comes after Harry launched another scathing attack on the royal family, citing “generational trauma” in his new AppleTV+ show about mental health, The Me You Can’t See.
