Jessica Simpson's Dental Hygiene Is Questionable, At Best

Jessica Simpson is a multi-talented singer, actress, dancer, and author, who first rose to fame in the early 2000s. Simpson has been the subject of overwhelming media attention throughout the course of her career and has been in several high-profile relationships.

With the recent publication of her bestselling memoir, Simpson is firmly back in the spotlight’s glare — and fans are learning even more about the soulful former pop star. Still, one of her admissions from a few years back is making a few of her fans (and those who work in the dental hygiene field) take a serious pause.

How did Jessica Simpson become famous?

Simpson was born in Texas in 1980. As a child, Simpson began singing in her local church choir, impressing everyone with the power of her voice and her incredible vocal range. She auditioned for the TV series The Mickey Mouse Club when she was twelve years old and although she was not selected to appear on the show, she met fellow future stars like Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake.

In the late ’90s, Simpson began focusing on her musical career in earnest. After she met and began dating 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey, she found herself thrust into a media circus.

In 2002, Simpson and Lachey announced their engagement, and the resulting interest in their relationship helped to boost Simpson’s music career. Their reality show, which debuted in 2003, only served to make the couple more pop-culture famous, and by the time that the show (and their marriage) ended in 2005, Simpson had become a worldwide celebrity.

In the years since, Simpson has continued to work on her music and has appeared in several popular movies, including The Dukes of Hazzard

Jessica Simpson revealed that she doesn’t brush her teeth every day

Simpson is known for her style and over the years, has made headlines for her fashion, as well as for her business empire. Simpson has earned many fans for her relatable approach to beauty, although, after she opened up in a 2010 interview, a few fans found her a bit too honest.

In an April 2010 interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Simpson stated that she only brushes her teeth “maybe three times a week.”

Simpson went on to state that she doesn’t brush daily because: “My teeth are so white and I don’t like them to feel too slippery but I do use Listerine and I do floss every day. My lips just slide all over the place….I can’t catch up with my mouth.” Still, she claimed that she doesn’t get halitosis from her routine: “I know it’s gross but I always have fresh breath.”

What do dentists say about Jessica Simpson’s dental hygiene?

Unsurprisingly, dental hygiene experts spoke up following Simpson’s interview with DeGeneres, claiming that while her habit might work for her, it isn’t the best option for most people. In fact, Simpson’s personal dentist, Dr. Bill Dorfman, even spoke out, stating: “I was kind of shocked. I assumed everybody brushed their teeth all the time. People pay us a lot of money for that slippery feeling. It s kind of the best part.”

Dorfman did not directly slam Simpson, but he did say that, in general, people should continue to brush regularly. He said: “It’s great that she s flossing all the time, but you have to brush too. What goes on in your mouth really affects your whole body.”

These days, Simpson continues to rock the red carpet and to run multiple businesses, all while maintaining her million-dollar smile. Whether her dental hygiene routine is TBD.
