Formula One champ Jenson Button’s 16-month-old son Hendrix was taken to hospital after suffering a seizure over the weekend.
Jenson’s fiancee Brittny Ward shared the news on social media, revealing the family hadn’t had the best Halloween after their toddler took ill after a sudden spike in his temperature.
Luckily Hendrix is on the mend, as Brittny – who is pregnant with the couple’s second child – warned parents about the condition, as well as how to immediately treat a child who is having a febrile seizure.
Sharing an image of her cradling a sleeping Hendrix in hospital on Tuesday, she wrote: ‘The Button family didn’t have the best Halloween. Poor little Hendrix ended up having a febrile seizure Saturday afternoon after a sudden spike in temperature.’
Keen to bring awareness to febrile seizures, Brittny went on: ‘They are much more common than we realized.
‘They often happen to infants when there’s a sudden spike in temperature and it’s the body’s response trying to regulate itself.
‘If you don’t know, when a child is having a febrile seizure it’s best to keep them cool as possible and DO NOT cover them up. It’s also best to lay them on their side so they don’t choke on their saliva.’
Luckily their little one, who was born in July last year, was recovering well, as she wrote: ‘Hendrix is doing much better today and is seemingly back to his playful self.
‘Thank you to everyone who helped us in this scary situation and everyone who reached out making sure he was ok.’
On Hendrix’s own Instagram page, a photo was uploaded today showing him flashing a toothy grin, as he sat in a stroller.
The gorgeous photo was captioned: ‘Happy Hendrix! The strongest boy we know.’
Hendrix underwent surgery earlier this year, as he ‘completely dislocated’ his hip due to hip dysplasia.
The condition occurs when the hip socket doesn’t cover the ball of the upper thighbone, meaning the joint can become dislocated. Most who suffer with the condition are born with it, and it is more common in firstborn children.
Former McClaren driver Jenson uploaded a photo of his son smiling widely in a cast in April following the operation, explaining that he was ‘doing well’.
‘Introducing Spica boy! The newest superhero’ he wrote. ‘Post surgery our little dude is doing well, bloody confused but healthy.’
In June Jenson and Brittny- whose wedding was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic – confirmed they were expecting another baby.
Brittny shared the news on her Instagram page, sharing a snap as she cradled her baby bump in a flowing white dress.
‘We can’t wait to meet you baby girl,’ she captioned the shot. ‘@hendrixbutton is going to be the best big brother.’
Sharing the same photo on his own page, Jenson simply added: ‘We’re having a girl! #Repost @brittnyward.’
Jenson and Brittny started dating back in March 2016, and announced their engagement two years later.
