Chef and TV presenter James Martin, 48, thanked his 706K Twitter followers for their “kind messages” following his appearance on ITV’s This Morning earlier in the week, where he appeared to be pranked by the show’s hosts Holly and Phil. However, it was revealed on this evening’s Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway that the restaurateur was in on the gag, which left fans feeling “cheated” after they were “affronted on his behalf” over the duo’s participation in Stephen Mulhern’s game, On Air Dares.
I was fuming on your behalf! Feel cheated now!
Bursting onto the set of shows Loose Women, Lorraine, Good Morning Britain and This Morning, Stephen informed the presenters that he would be “gatecrashing the entire live shows of ITV” that day.
Explaining the game, he said: “I have got loads of words, phrases and actions, all you’ve got to do is try and get as many as you can in the next part of the show.
“You must not let the viewers know that I’m here at any point otherwise you’re out of the game.”
Holly and Phil’s antics on the breakfast show earlier in the week left viewers convinced that they were pulling a prank on unsuspecting chef James – but little did they know that he was in on the gag.
The big reveal on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway led to fans saying they felt “cheated”, as it emerged that the chef was in on the joke the whole time.
One wrote on Twitter: “I was fuming on your behalf! Feel cheated now!”
Another added: “We were utterly affronted on your behalf, you minx. Well!! You clearly acted the best of all of them! Amazing!”
Bursting onto the This Morning set in surprise, Stephen told the three presenters how to play the game.
The magician started by holding up a placard that said “unbelievable.”
Getting stuck in, Phil said to viewers: “James Martin is taking us to chocolate heaven, he’s got an unbelievable choux pastry going on.”
However, the next phrase “bursting for a wee”, wasn’t as easy to use, but Holly gave it her best shot.
“But first it’s competition time, which is really useful as I’m bursting for a wee,” she exclaimed before the show cut to the day’s competition.
“This is a beauty that’s coming up,” said Stephen, while holding up a card with “flaps” written on it.

Going back to the show, Holly embraced the game which was being broadcast live.
“We’re back in the kitchen with James, he’s got a real chocolate treat for you, I’m in a right old flaps about it,” she said excitedly.
After Stephen continued to hold up a card saying “laugh “uncontrollably”, the two hosts burst out laughing after James said he was making a caramel dessert.
After tasting it, Holly commented: “Do you know what? I’m not being rude but it does taste better than it looks,” after Stephen held up a sign saying “taste better than it looks.”
James looked visibly shocked at the rude remark, before replying: “Well, I know it’s a little bit of a mess, I get that.”
After Holly told viewers to look at the This Morning app to find the recipes that were featured on the show, Phil remarked, “don’t tell me what to do’, as instructed by Stephen.
Following the end of the game, Stephen cited the trio’s performance as “phenomenal”.
Holly added: “They’re going to think we’ve gone mad.”
