FKA Twigs has further opened about her alleged toxic relationship with actor Shia LaBeouf, saying it was a “miracle” that she came out of the relationship alive.
In an interview with Elle, Twigs, aka Tahliah Barnett, said, “It’s a miracle I came out alive.”
“I think it was luck,” Barnett said. “I honestly wish I could say that I found some strength and I saw this light. I wish I could say, ‘[It is] a testament to my strong character,’ or ‘It’s the way my mother raised me.’ It’s none of that. It’s pure luck that I’m not in that situation anymore.”
In December, Twigs filed a lawsuit against her former boyfriend in which she alleged that LaBeouf sexually and physically assaulted her throughout their relationship and knowingly gave her a sexually transmitted disease.
However, in response to the lawsuit, LaBeouf denied “each and every allegation” of abuse made by his former girlfriend.
Twigs, who is now dating The 1975 frontman Matty Healy, added, “If you put a frog in a boiling pot of water, that frog is going to jump out straightaway. Whereas if you put a frog in cool water and heat it up slowly, that frog is going to boil to death. That was my experience being with [LaBeouf].”
