Dan Walker, 43, surprised BBC Breakfast viewers on Saturday morning with a shirt that was a little more colourful than usual. He strayed away from a suit, plain coloured shirt and tie to go live on air, he opted for something more eye-catching, but not everyone was a fan.
Should have gone to @VisionExpress!
He shared his daring new look of a bright, floral top to his social channels, but he wasn’t prepared to be roasted by none other than the official Twitter account for Specsavers.
The opticians have been known in the past for their hilarious banter, mocking celebrities or other businesses on social media with funny jibes – all in jest of course, and perhaps a brilliant marketing technique!
This time, Dan found himself the target of their high-jinks, as they took aim at his brightly coloured get-up.
Alongside the photos he posted to the online platforms, Dan wrote: “The lovely @mikebreakfast was a fan… @TVNaga01 not so much,” he giggled as he noted there was a divide in opinion over his attire between his co-stars.
“I just thought I’d bring a slice of colour to #BBCBreakfast this morning.”
Amongst those either praising or cringing at the shirt, Specsavers also replied with a joke, penning: “Puts sunglasses on,” suggesting the brightness was blinding.
It didn’t take Dan long to think of a witty response and decided to play them at their own game.
“Should have gone to @VisionExpress,” he hit back, using Specasvers’ famous advertising slogan against them.
Two hours later, the opticians came back again, apologising for the delay with their reason was yet another swipe at the BBC host.
“Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Dan, we were watching Saturday Morning Kitchen,” they winked, as the cooking show is a rival ITV progam.

But Dan didn’t seem too phased as long as they tuned in to his show afterwards: “Just as long as you’re ready for Football Focus at midday,” he hoped.
Mike Bushell also replied on the micro-blogging site, announcing his respect for the top.
“That’s a thronker of a shirt if ever I saw one,” he laughed.
“Wildlife on one @mrdanwalker.”
Many fans agreed, believing bringing a bit of colour to TV in these crazy times just what we need.
Receiving compliments in abundance, Dan was inundated with people asking where they could acquire the same outfit, while others dared him to wear it on the main show.
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
