Coronation Street star Alex Bain breaks silence amid split from fiancée

Coronation Street's Alex Bain has broken his social media silence and as he announced his return on his Instagram stories.

The soap star took a trip to the theatre to see the UK tour of The King and I, where he shared a snap of the stage and wrote: “Guess who’s back on Instagram! And what perfect timing.”

Alex, who has played Simon Barlow for the last 15 years on Coronation Street, has made his return to his socials after announcing he he was “taking a break” following his reported breakup from fiancée Mollie Lockwood last month.

At the time he wrote: “Due to recent personal life events, I will be taking a break from all forms of social media.

"I'm sure you can all understand. I will still be around however, because of certain numbers of comments made on the recent articles, and numerous other personal reasons, I will be stepping away for a while to work on myself and personal healing.

"For now, unless it's necessary for me to be here, I will be very absent for a while."

The star also thanked people who had messaged him “personally” and said “thank you, from the bottom of my heart."

He ended the emotional post with a simple red heart emoji.

The pair had been dating for three years, with Alex popping the question on their two-year anniversary. But after only six months engaged it was reported that the couple had split.

Following his split from Mollie, an insider told The Sun: "They’re gutted the relationship didn’t work out, but they’re both so young it’s hard to make such a big commitment early on in their lives.

"Their mates have rallied around to support them and keep them busy. Alex is focused on the soap and getting stuck into storylines and his role."

The news of the reported split comes just a few months after Alex gushed about his fiancée in anexclusive interview with OK!, with the pair sharing all of the details of Alex's proposal and their plans they had for their wedding day.

The Corrie star revealed he proposed after a “romantic night out in Chester” when the couple had gone out to celebrate their two year anniversary and he proposed as they watched the sunset.

Alex had previously said that he liked that Mollie didn’t know who he was or what he did for work. He didn’t reveal his acting career until a week into their relationship.
