Chris Evans, 54, reminiced on old times with his pal Cat Deeley, 43, on Thursday and the two took a long trip down memory lane. Ahead of her new book release, Cat reunited with colleagues Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly from their SMTV days, which provoked an embarrassing memory Chris had put to the back of his mind.

Was it pretty obvious that I dint know what was going on the whole time?

As part of the live Saturday morning telly show, which last aired 22-years ago, the trio performed humorous sketches one of which was Chums – a parady of the US sitcom Friends.

Viewers watched as Dec and Cat were in a relationship, dealing with Ant and a serious problem.

They were often joined by celebrity guests, which saw Chris appear alongside them in a one-off.

But he recalled he hadn’t learnt the script at all before going on-air.

“I was on TFI Friday the night before but you had to learn a script to be in Chums!” he noted as Cat nodded.

“I woke up slash hadn’t gone to bed the day of SMTV live and I hadn’t learnt anything.

“I had already been introduced as a guest and I still hadn’t learn anything!”

Cat chuckled as Chris admitted the nerves had got to him.

“I felt so sick,” he confessed, but his guest made him feel much better about the situation.

“But you did some superb improvisation because I remember you nicking my [inaudible] and I think I had some dodgy body oil on…”

She trailed off as Chris suddenly interrupted: “I think that was in the script, Cat!” he giggled quickly to save face.

She roared with laughter before continuing: “But that made the intro or outro as one of our snippets!

“Your improvisation skills were phenomenal.”

Chris wasn’t so sure: “Was it pretty obvious that I didn’t know what was going on the whole time?” he winced, wondering if he’d made a pigs ear of it.

Cat disagreed: “It always is with Chum, in for a penny in for a pound, get in there and be enthusiastic!”

Her appearance on the show comes after the trio reunited at their old stomping grounds to promote her new book.

Everyone’s favourite Geordie duo shared a sweet snap to Instagram of the trio together again, captioning the post: “Seems everybody’s got a book out these days!

“Good look to our chum @catdeeley on the release of her children’s book #TheJoyInYou.”

The Chris Evans Breakfast show airs weekdays at 6:30am on Virgin Radio.
