Britney Spears fights her dad's bid to keep conservatorship case 'hidden away'

Britney Spears is reportedly eager to have full transparency about her ongoing conservatorship court case and has ‘welcomed informed support’ from her fans.

The singer recently filed against her father Jamie Spears being made her sole conservator again and TMZ claims the singer’s lawyers have now opposed her dad’s motion to keep parts of the case sealed from the public.

The publication reports that the 38-year-old’s lawyer stated: ‘Britney argues there are no medical issues or sensitive issues with her children to protect, so there’s no reason to keep the hearing secret.’

The lawyer added that ‘… Britney herself is vehemently opposed to this effort by her father to keep her legal struggle hidden away in the closet as a family secret.’

Jamie, 68, had been the co-conservator of his daughter for 11 years following her high-profile breakdown.

He managed Britney’s financial affairs and daily life until September 2019, when Jodi Montgomery became her temporary conservator.

Britney’s lawyer then reportedly then commented on the #FreeBritney movement and said: ‘Far from being a conspiracy theory or a “joke” as James [Jamie] reportedly told the media, in large part this scrutiny is a reasonable and even predictable result of James’ aggressive use of the sealing procedure over the years to minimize the amount of meaningful information made available to the public.’

Along with the legal documents, Britney’s lawyers attached an article about the #FreeBritney campaign.

The lawyer stated that Britney ‘welcomes and appreciates the informed support of her many fans.’

The move comes amid growing concern from fans regarding the hitmaker’s well-being under the conservatorship, which has been in place since 2008.

Fans began the viral #FreeBritney movement on social media and more people began to follow the complex case.

Just last month, Jamie has blasted the viral campaign, which he claims is a ‘conspiracy’.

Speaking to The New York Post, Jamie continued to speak in favour of the conservatorship, arguing that it’s ‘no one else’s business’ while criticising the fan movement.

He also argued that the campaign was ‘a joke’ for seemingly portraying him as a bad father.

‘All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything. The world don’t have a clue,’ he told the publication. It’s up to the court of California to decide what’s best for my daughter. It’s no one else’s business.’

Jamie also denied that he has been stealing money from Britney stating: ‘I have to report every nickel and dime spent to the court every year. How the hell would I steal something?’

Later referring to the types of fans he has witnessed campaign against the conservatorship, he said: ‘People are being stalked and targeted with death threats. It’s horrible. We don’t want those kinds of fans.’

Jamie added that he ‘loves’ Britney, but the situation is ‘private’.

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Britney for further comment.
