BUYING a dress is arguably one of the most expensive parts of a wedding, and probably the most expensive frock you’ll ever own.
But now brides-to-be can save themselves a pretty penny by renting gowns instead – from as little at £15 a day.
- Ganni, By Rotation, £20 per day – rent now
An app has been created which lets women hire designer dresses for a fraction of the cost of buying them.
By Rotation, which describes itself as a 'fashion rental platform', has a pretty impressive selection of white dresses perfect for a wedding.
Big names such as Carolina Herrera, Victoria Beckham, Atelier Colpani, Jacquemus, and Kate Midddleton’s favourite, Jenny Packham, are all available on the app.
Prices start from around £15-a-day and go up to £1,000, so there’s something for every budget.
- Victoria Beckham, By rotation, £40 a day – rent now
Eshita Kabra-Davies, founder of By Rotation, told Glamour: "We have seen an increasing number of brides-to-be sign up on the app and make enquiries for their big day.
"It's pretty common for the groom to rent his tux, but renting a wedding dress seems to be more unconventional even though it would be the perfect something borrowed."
Some dresses have a minimum rental period, such as two days, and there’s also the option to hire a frock for a week.
- Jacquemus, By Rotation, £15 a day – rent now
- Atelier Colpani, By Rotation, £90 a day – rent now
One former bride, hiring out her Atelier Colpani dress which originally cost £3,000, said: “This dress has been hanging in my wardrobe for nearly two years.
“While I hold sentimental value towards my dress and love it, I'd love to rent it out for someone to have the opportunity to feel the same way on their special day.”
Explaining how the system works, the app says once you sign up you can list an item with photos and information, then people can request to hire your clothes.
- Carolina Herrera, By Rotation, £375 a day – rent now
- Jenny Packham, By Rotation, £250 a day – rent now
The seller either sends the items or can arrange to meet and exchange, with the website adding: “Get paid within 5-7 business days after the rental period is complete.
“Lenders are ultimately responsible for cleaning and can add a cleaning fee if the item is delicate.
“Renters are ultimately responsible for the item's receipt and return.”
