Sophie Wessex has been seen wearing some beautiful jewels over the years; most of which come from the Royal Family’s Crown Jewels collection, or her own private collection. One piece the Countess of Wessex has rarely worn in is a gorgeous green pendant. Express.co.uk spoke to a jewellery expert at Prestige Pawnbrokers about the item.

There isn’t many details regarding the jade necklace, but it is said to be acquired by the royal at some point in the early 2010s.

Sitting on a long thin chain is a large flat circular jade, surrounded by diamonds.

Sophie was first seen wearing it at a Gala Fundraising Dinner, in 2014.

She and husband Prince Edward were photographed attending the event at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes.

She and husband Prince Edward were photographed attending the event at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes.

And the necklace was centre of attention as she wore a black dress, with her hair swept up and simple diamond earrings.

The only other time Sophie has been seen with the necklace was in 2017.

She accompanied several other members of the Royal Family – including Kate Middleton, Prince William and the Queen to the first day of Royal Ascot.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex rode in the same carriage as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Sophie wore a bright green dress – the same colour as the pendant – and a cream hat.

During their appearance, the cart jolted and Sophie lost her footing, stumbling towards Kate.

The jade pendant swung from Sophie’s neck as she tried to steady herself, giving photographers the perfect opportunity to take close up shots of the necklace.

Express.co.uk spoke to Alexandra Michell, Gemologist at Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn about Sophie’s pendant.

She discussed the design and how much it could be worth should it go to auction.

Alexandra said: “A beautiful rich green, intricately carved Jade pendant, enclosed in a fine ring of diamonds, hanging on a chain.

“Possibly Art Deco, with an approximate weight of 50 carats for the carved Jade.

“I would estimate this to sell at auction for £80,000 at least.”

Royal fans commented on social media with some potential ideas for where the jewel originated from.

An Instagram user with the name pluckyjoshua said: “Queen Mary had a substantial jade collection. I wonder if it’s a piece from her.”

Ladytkestner wrote: “Could be a gift from her husband?”

Deamdeburka suggested: “Seams like an old piece maybe from the 1900s , might have been worn on a extra long chain, maybe Queen Alexandra’s?”
