Princess Anne gave Autumn Phillips a stunning tiara to wear at her wedding to Peter Phillips on May 17, 2008, but she was unable to keep it. The beautiful bride, who is celebrating her 45th birthday today, received the Festoon Tiara on loan from the Princess Royal.
The Festoon Tiara, which Princess Anne received as a gift from the World-Wide Shipping Group in 1973, completed Autumn’s bridal attire.
The tiara was presented to Anne in 1973, the same year that she wed Mark Phillips, her first husband.
But it wasn’t a wedding gift. Instead, the World-Wide Shipping Group, a Hong Kong company, gave it to the Princess Royal after she christened one of their ships.
Since then, the tiara has been seen on multiple occasions being worn by Princess Anne, including in 2017 when she wore it with a matching necklace during a banquet at the Guildhall.
This explains why Autumn was unable to keep the gorgeous tiara, because it was a loan and the Princess Royal clearly intended to keep wearing it at royal events.
The year 2008 marked the first time that another royal woman aside from Anne wore the tiara in public.
At Autumn and Peter Phillips’s May 2008 wedding in Windsor, the diamond Festoon tiara served as the anchor for her veil.
The sparkler was delicate with just the right amount of height and fullness to be aesthetically beautiful.

The tiara looks quite light and the design is fairly simple, so wearing it must have been easy for Autumn.
Out of her entire diadem collection, Princess Anen has worn the Festoon tiara the most.
She debuted this diamond Festoon tiara for her engagement photo shoot with Mark Phillips.
One of her most frequently worn tiaras, it is typically worn with a festoon necklace, a wedding gift from King Charles in 1973.
In addition, Anne pairs the tiara with her bow brooch, a gift from the late Queen and Prince Philip on her 18th birthday.
On Autumn’s wedding day in 2008, the Festoon Necklace which Anne frequently wears with her diadem was not present.
As an alternative, the bride accessorised with a similar necklace and pair of pearl earrings.
Peter Phillips had sent these to her at Windsor Castle the night before their wedding as a pre-nuptials gift.
Autumn donned a wedding gown by British designer Sassi Holford that had a shrug of beaded French lace, a silk Duchesse skirt, and a fitted bodice of hand-beaded lace.
The royal requested that her shoulders be “covered” and wore a very modest bridal gown, according to reports.
Sassi Holford noted Autumn “felt that shoulders should be covered”. She told Yahoo UK: “There were certain things that she felt would be right and proper for a royal wedding.”
The designer claimed the late Queen Elizabeth II “highly approved of the dress”.
