It was about time really.
Glossier, known for their soft and no frills approach to makeup, has launched a new product: Ultralip.
Uncharacteristically for Glossier, – normally they’re tight lipped about new products – the brand has teased the launch on their social media channels.
Maybe they’re anticipating a frenzy here. It is one of the most exciting launches from the brand in a while.
Generation G is one of the brand’s canonical products. It was one of the first to launch when the brand opened shop and though it’s seen a packaging redesign since due to a flaw, it’s still a popular buy.
So where Generation G gives you a soft and sheer matte finish, Ultralip gives you a semi-opaque glossy look.
Boasting of creating shine while being hydrating, we can confirm it does achieve this and makes lips look glassy.
The formula contains four molecular weights of hyaluronic acid to penetrate deeper into skin, which adds that hydrating effect.
And to get the highly reflective texture, the brand have included a blend of three oils in the formula.
So, it’s pretty malleable and will transfer, but that’s the nature of these kinds of lip products in general.
There are nine ‘sheer yet buildable’ shades, though they do stay closer to the sheer side even when layered.
From a dusty rose to a watermelon red, there’s a tone to suit most tastes.
No matter how bold you go with this product, your natural lip tone will peek through, toning down the brightness ever so slightly.
Again, this is a prime example of Glossier’s ‘natural’ approach to makeup.
Glossier say Ultralip has ‘the buildable color of a lip tint, the sheen of a gloss, and the rich moisture of a balm – all in our most plush, luxurious formula to date.’
It’s a bold claim, but it’s true. They say lips will feel ‘cocooned’ and they do.
‘It feels so buttery and comfortable, we call it the cashmere sweatpants of lipstick,’ the brand continues.
Even better, there’s no smell or taste with this – welcome news to those with sensitivities.
Now Glossier has two lipstick formats down, lip glosses and tinted lip balms, we’re just waiting on the lip liner.
