Ten years ago, founder Ilan Delouis wandered into a Paris gallery and snapped up “The City Is Wilder,” the Robert Montgomery light installation that inspired the brand’s name. The artwork made an appearance in the background of a fall video that read as an affirmation of Each x Other’s founding tenets: a unisex wardrobe based on men’s wear classics, poetry as a signature and a democratic approach to fashion, closer at hand than ever now that the brand is fully direct-to-consumer. Meanwhile, its erstwhile collaborative approach, with regular artist hookups, is being spun into a second project that Delouis will reveal later in the year.

The look: Cool-kids fare with a relaxed, gently oversize juxtaposition of loungewear, streetwear, and tweaked classics of stereotypical French style.

Quote of note: “Our mission is to dress everyone and about giving a creative twist to a hyper-wearable wardrobe. The brand is inspired by a poem; words have the power to create,” Delouis said. “Consider this today’s artist or gallerist look — simplicity is sophistication.”

Standout pieces: Nothing at first glance, and that was the point. Details did the talking at close range in faux leather outerwear, chunky sweaters, handsome denim, and lounge-y sweatsuits. On the other hand, accessories stood out with miniature but still functional bags; and all manners of flat footwear, from creepers and Chelsea boots to tennis shoes.

Takeaway: Each x Other’s direct-to-consumer approach will be perfect for this believable wardrobe that is comfortable enough for the lockdown lifestyle and interesting enough to warrant a double-take on the street.
